How To Empty Taxpayer Pockets

10% increase to our provincial sales tax!!!

Audacity: Noun; boldness or daring, especially with confident or arrogant disregard for personal safety, conventional thought, or other restrictions.

Please vote as you see fit in the upcoming Translink Mayors plebiscite. The Mayors and Translink intend to increase our provincial sales tax by 10%, from 5% to 5.5%.

This is intended to be in addition to funds from existing taxes, subsidies and fees already enjoyed by Translink. Read the fuel pump the next time you fill up. There is a label itemizing the fees and taxes over-and-above the sales tax. Translink is currently the benefactor of 17 cents per litre of gasoline purchased.

Another consideration...according to the ambiguous material I've received on this plebiscite, Translink states a portion of the new revenue will pay for construction of the new Pattullo Bridge. It does not state another fact - the new Pattullo Bridge is being built as a toll crossing, so as consumers we will pay for construction, and then continue to pay for the privilege of using the bridge already paid for. If this is not the case, I wish Translink would explain it more clearly.

We do enjoy a public standard of living to be grateful for in the Lower Mainland. However, before the government and their agencies dig deeper into our pockets I would like to know the cities and municipalities involved have the talent to find the money in their existing budgets. Or, let's elect and pay for professionals who have this talent.

Why must we continue to endure audacity? Don't give up Mayors, just come up with a respectable, affordable Plan B.

In my humble opinion, of course.

Voting between March 16 and May 29, 2015, I believe. Watch for ballots in your mail.
